TREATMENTS
Wijnland Fertility Clinic offers numerous male and female Fertility Services and tests. Tests are aimed at assessing the fertility of an individual or a couple before determining the most suitable next step in the journey.
Our treatments include the following:
EmbryoScope™
Wijnland Fertility invested in the EmbryoscopeTM in August 2013. The use of this incubator for embryo selection has greatly optimised the efficiency of embryo selection and implantation in our facility.
The EmbryoscopeTM is an incubator that conserves the necessary physiological conditions that a living embryo requires to grow in an IVF culturing system. It has an incorporated time-lapse system with a camera that continuously captures images and records a video of the embryonic development.
By using these time points we can select the best embryos and provide a lot of information regarding their viability. These time points can only be recorded fully if done under a time-lapse camera.

Male infertility is increasing, with 50% of infertility cases now originating with men. Our full time andrology laboratory assists in male fertility treatment:
The effects of cancer and cancer treatments can be devastating to a person’s future fertility. At Wijnland Clinic, we offer fertility preservation options to cancer patients. This is something we are particularly passionate about.
Many modern women postpone childbearing in order to complete their education, focus on their career, or find the right life partner, leading to an increasing number of women over the age 35 facing fertility challenges when they are ready to start a family.
Egg freezing offers women the possibility to potentially extend their fertility. To freeze eggs a vitrification technique is used. 8-12 Eggs need to be frozen to have a good chance for pregnancy. Our clinic has a 95% frozen egg survival rate.
Every pregnancy carries an approximate risk of 1/7 to end in a miscarriage. The primary reason is that an abnormality has occurred, this might include chromosomal abnormalities (eg. Down syndrome, Turner syndrome etc.), anatomical abnormalities in the fetus (eg. Heart abnormalities etc.), anatomical abnormalities of the uterus (eg. Septum etc.) and
many others.
Having a first miscarriage is thus considered to be nature’s way of “protecting” us against abnormal babies. However having two or more miscarriages cannot automatically be regarded as being “normal”. On the medical side a thorough Gynaecological and Obstetrical history and examination (including a specialized ultrasound) are indicated and some specialized blood tests might be needed. After three miscarriages, a full miscarriage screening is indicated.
The psychological impact of losing a pregnancy can also not be ignored and at Wijnland, dealing with this trauma, is part of our ethos. We have therefore created a special space and service for patients who have experienced two or more miscarriages.
If you make an appointment to make use of this service, remember to state these facts so we can allocate you to the correct avenue in our clinic.
If you’re having a hard time coping with infertility, you’re not alone. Research has shown that the psychological stress experienced by individuals with infertility is similar to that of those coping with illnesses such as cancer, HIV and chronic pain. Infertility is not easy to cope with.
Lizanne van Waart completed her Master’s degree in Psychology, focussing on infertility at Stellenbosch University. She provides psychosocial guidance for fertility patients at the clinic. Furthermore, she is actively involved in the IICO (International Infertility Counselling Organisation).
We offer counselling and support to patients, including the following services:
At Wijnland Fertility we offer the full range of fertility surgery, including laparoscopic myomectomy, laparoscopic treatment of all grades of endometriosis, hysteroscopic removal of fibroids/polyps and re-anastomoses of Fallopian tubes after sterilisation.
As part of our general gynaecological surgery we also offer total laparoscopic hysterectomy, as well as endometrial resection/ablation.
