Wijnland Fertility is pleased to announce that our practice is expanding. Our new branch has opened in Somerset West (Arun Place, Old Sir Lowry’s Pass Road) and is now seeing patients for fertility consultations and general gynaecology. Wijnland Somerset West can also provide andrology (semen analysis) services.
The new practice will use the same specialised laboratory as Stellenbosch but makes consultations for Somerset West patients that much more convenient.
Dr Candice Morrison will be consulting at the practice. Dr Morrison has been at the Wijnland Stellenbosch practice for some time, working alongside Dr Johannes van Waart where she has been very popular with both her patients and her team.
After reading an MBBCH in 2005 at the University of Witwatersrand, Dr Morrison went on to study life support and trauma treatment, before choosing to focus on obstetrics and gynaecology.
Dr Morrison completed an MMed (Gynaecology) in 2014 (University of Cape Town) and became a Fellow of the College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists of South Africa (Cape Town) – FCOG (SA) in 2014.
Working in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Cape Town, she completed an MMed on a Gynae Endocrine topic while doing her registrar time.
During her rotation, she spent a total of twelve months exclusively in urogynaecology where she also became familiar with vaginal and prolapse surgery. She is competent in outpatient procedures such as hysteroscopy, cystoscopy and pelvic ultrasound.
Her MMed and college dissertation was based on a descriptive cohort study and included a comparison of the presentation of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in adolescents compared to women aged 35 years and older at Groote Schuur Hospital. She presented her dissertation at the SASOG 2014 congress and was awarded second prize and a certificate of excellence for oral presentations by a registrar.
Beyond the consultancy room, Dr Morrison has represented South Africa and Western Province in age group Triathlons. She competed in the Triathlon World Championships in Beijing and recently placed second in her age group at the 2015 South African Triathlon Championships.
