Dr Candice Morrison worked in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Cape Town and completed a MMed on a Gynae Endocrine topic while doing her registrar time. During her rotation she spent a total of twelve months exclusively in Urogynaecology were she also became familiar with vaginal and prolapse surgery. She is competent in outpatient procedures such as hysteroscopy, cystoscopy and pelvic ultrasound. Her MMed and college dissertation was based on a descriptive cohort study and included a comparison of the presentation of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in adolescents compared to women aged 35 years and older at Groote Schuur Hospital. She presented her dissertation at the SASOG 2014 congress and was awarded 2nd prize and a certificate of excellence for oral presentations by a registrar. In 2011 she represented South Africa and Western Province in age group Triathlons and competed in Triathlon World Championships in Beijing. She has competed in Ironman and half Ironman events and in 2015 placed 2nd in SA championships and qualified for World Championships in Chicago.

Dr Eben Venter originates from Pretoria, where he completed his undergraduate studies. He specialized in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Cape Town and completed his first level in Endoscopic Gyneacological Surgery as a Registrar. During his registrarship, he was awarded the UCT Alan Alperstein Award for excellent surgical skills. His Masters Thesis, titled “the Caesarean Section Rate at Mowbray Maternity Hospital: Applying Robson’s Ten Group Classification System”, evaluated the trend in the Caesarean Section rate at Mowbray Maternity Hospital and factors affecting the change. It was completed in 2018 and is to be awarded with distinction. He has a special interest in endoscopic surgery, endocrinology, hormone replacement and reconstruction. He enjoys travelling to explore the world and different cultures and communities.

Lizanne provides health psychology support/gamete donor and recipient assessment/assistance for all singles and couples with decision making and counselling on implications for unborn child/miscarriages and cancer. She is especially interested in positive psychology and resilience, women and reproductive psychology, and mindfulness therapy.

Lydia Els-Smit started the Wijnland Andrology and IVF laboratory together with Dr Johannes van Waart Inc. in 2008. She began her studies in Sport Science and then proceeded to doing her Honours in Medical Physiology at Tygerberg. From there she entered the field of Reproductive Biology and completed her Master’s with a study in ovarian cryopreservation for women with cancer.

Birgit started her career as a Reproductive Biologist at Groote Schuur Hospital in 2003-2015. She then joined our team in January 2016. She completed her studies in Nature Conservation at Stellenbosch University and developed an interest in Reproductive Biology. She completed her Honours in Nature Conservation. Her honours project was a study in the histology of Cape Serotine Bats.   Thereafter she completed her M.SC. in Reproductive Biology in 2002.  Her M.Sc project was determining the optimal dosage of PMSG in the superovulation of mice and the effect of insulin on the growth of embryos in vitro. Birgit enjoys all aspects of Reproductive Medicine but has a keen interest in patient centred care and support.

Anéll started her career as a Registered Nurse at Stellenbosch Provincial Hospital in 2008 where she worked in the Emergency Centre as well as in the Midwifery ward. In February of 2009, she moved to Stellenbosch Mediclinic`s Midwifery ward. She was promoted to be the ward`s Senior Registered Nurse in June of the same year. She started her career at Wijnland Fertility in October 2011 and enjoys working with the fertility patients as well as the pregnant ladies.She is very fortunate to have twin boys who keeps her very busy.
SR Cyndi Nel

Cyndi started her career in Nursing at GSH in 2008 as part of her community service year. She gained vital experience while working in various departments, but developed an interest in critical care and pursued her Honors degree. She worked in ICU's between 2008-2011. She later specialised in spinal cord care in 2011. In 2012 she joined Cape Fertility Clinic as an IVF coordinator. She joined the Wijnland fertility clinic in 2016 as an IVF Coordinator.

Celestè worked in the private hospital setting for 10 years, working in Theatre and Maternity unit. She is currently doing all theatre bookings and assists with fertility coordination. Celestè enjoys the outdoors and a good book, also loves spending time with family and friends.


Sunita Potgieter

Sunita is a registered dietitian and has been a lecturer in therapeutic nutrition at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of Stellenbosch University since 2007. This was also the year that she started her private practice Helderberg Dietitians. She completed a Master’s degree at the end of 2008 and graduated with a PhD during March 2013. Recently she completed a postgraduate diploma in Health Research Ethics. Her main areas of interest include nutritional status assessment, nutritional supplementation and nutritional implications for fertility, wellness and physical activity. She is still involved in research and postgraduate student supervision at the Division of Human Nutrition at Stellenbosch University and she has presented original research at national and international congresses and published original research in peer reviewed scientific journals. She has extensive experience in teaching, private practice, consulting in industry and corporate wellness. Sunita will be studying MB ChB (medicine) at Stellenbosch University from 2016 while consulting at her practice in Strand and at Wijland Fertility in Stellenbosch. Sunita’s journey at Wijland Fertility started as a personal one, with all three her kids being conceived via IVF. In her private life she takes care of three beautiful children, is an avid triathlete and enjoys participating in endurance sport events. Sunita has completed several Olympic and Ironman distance events, earning an Ironman World Championship slot in 2008.

Henco completed his 3 year articles at Moore Stephens Management Services in 2015 where after he was promoted to manager and served as the head of training for the following two years. He joined the Wijnland team in January 2018. He is also employed as an external examiner for the department of management accounting at Stellenbosch University.
Maurishin Kiewiets
Maurishen is our friendly face at reception. She has 18 years of secretarial experience and completed her Executive PA / Secretarial Diploma in March 2007 and her Medical Certificate in 2010. She grew up in Stellenbosch and in her free time, she loves outdoor activities such as hiking with her husband and two beautiful kids. She joined Wijnland Fertility in September 2011.
Anne Fletcher
Anne has worked as a medical receptionist for many years. She grew up in Port Elizabeth but relocated to be closer to family. She loves reading, listening to music and spending time with her grandchildren and family. She joined the clinic in June 2017.
Marilyn Van Der Merwe
Recovery Room Assistant
Marilyn is the recovery room assistant and makes sure that all our patients are comfortable and that all their needs are seen to.
Sunette Vogel
Sunette joined Wijnland Fertility in May 2017.  She has more than 20 years secretarial and PA experience in various industries.  She completed her National Diploma in Marketing in 1996 and National Diploma in Trauma Counselling in 2012.  Sunette is passionate about people in need, especially women and small children.  Sunette and her family moved down from Pretoria to Cape Town in December 2016 and enjoy exploring the Cape with her beautiful daughter.   She enjoys reading and is a keen Mountain Bike Cyclist.  She also enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends.
Hildegard Isaacs
Hildegard has extensive experience in office administration and accounting in various settings. Hildegard loves spending time with her husband and two beautiful children.
